Stephen Kautz grew up in a farming family; was a member of the Tokay FFA Chapter in Lodi, Calif.; and today is president of Kautz Family Vineyards in Murphys, Calif. The entire Kautz family supports their local agricultural community through fundraising events, including the annual Ironstone Concours d’Elegance classic antique car show. While attendees view the cars, they also meet FFA and 4-H members who exhibit their projects at the event.

Tabitha Hudspeth is an agricultural studies major at Arkansas State University and she is also the 2016-17 National Teach Ag intern. Tabitha describes two main reasons for choosing agricultural education as a career: #1, there is a need for more agriculture teachers – so jobs are available; and #2, agriculture is an open field with a wide variety of options.
Isaiah Govea is an agricultural education major at the University of Arizona and he also serves as a Teach Ag Ambassador. Isaiah grew up in Phoenix and did not have an agricultural background, but he was drawn to agriculture and FFA because of the leadership opportunities. He says agriculture has something for everybody.

Terry Rieckman of South Dakota started his career as an agriculture educator in 1984, and while he has now retired from teaching, he continues as president of the National Association of Agricultural Educators. Terry talks about the growing need for teachers who can educate people about where their food comes from – but the current demand for agriculture teachers is outpacing the supply.

Travis Park is the son of an agriculture teacher, he was the 1992-93 National FFA President and now he is an associate professor of agricultural and extension education at North Carolina State University. Dr. Park says agriculture educators are more than teachers; they are also coaches and mentors to their students. He explains how he and his students will celebrate agriculture teachers on Teach Ag Day (Sept. 22).

They met for the first time 10 years ago at the New Hampshire State FFA Convention and immediately hit it off. Christine and Brendon went their separate ways for a while, but when they reconnected and decided to get married, where did they hold their wedding? That’s right – at the New Hampshire State FFA Convention!

Three FFA chapters have received cash prizes from Culver’s that will help pay for their trips to the National FFA Convention & Expo. Writing about how modern technology is impacting the industry of agriculture and their ag careers, winners of Culver’s Second Annual FFA Essay Contest are: Wyatt Neal of Parma FFA in Idaho, Hannah Stokan of Seven Lakes FFA in Texas, and Sierra Wiles of Riverton Parke FFA in Indiana. When Paul Larson came to Wisconsin’s Freedom High School in 1989, the agriculture program was struggling – but through Paul’s efforts and the support of their FFA Alumni and the local community, the program is now thriving. Named the 2015 NAAE Outstanding Agriculture Teacher for Region 3, Paul still finds teaching exciting and fun. As he says, with agriculture, “there’s always something new to learn.”
