Located in an urban setting with a culturally diverse community, Springdale High School in Arkansas has an active FFA chapter that welcomes nontraditional students. FFA advisor Chad Burkett explains how the chapter used a grant from the Zoetis FFA Chapter Support Program to carry out their community outreach efforts. Springdale FFA member Max Wilson tells us how he raises bees in his backyard and then sells the honey.

Fifth-generation farmers Travis and Tyler Schnaithman, Clayton Mack and Zach Weichel also earned a host of state and national awards and honors in FFA. Now they are putting their training and experience to work as they help feed the world’s growing population.

Pat Earle, FFA advisor at McBee High School in South Carolina, is just the second person to have taught in the agriculture program since it was established in the 1940s. He follows in the footsteps of his father, who was the ag teacher at McBee for 41 years. Pat is well known for a phrase he shares often with his students: “I expect great things from you in the future.”

Jared Kelly, a member of the East Buchanan FFA Chapter in Iowa, had special motivation as he worked on his 1972 International 656 tractor – he was restoring the tractor in memory of his father. Jared’s father always wanted to restore a tractor with Jared, so the community bought the tractor for Jared and it was a labor of love for him to complete the restoration.
