Sarah LaRose, FFA advisor at the Woodbury FFA Chapter at Nonnewaug High School in Connecticut, tells how her interest in horses led her to join FFA as a student. Now an FFA advisor, Sarah explains how she used a Food for All grant to create a Local Food Production class in which her students grow vegetables for the local food pantry and the school cafeteria. She also talks about a recent trip to South Korea where she visited with Future Farmers of Korea members.

The St. Amant FFA Chapter in St. Amant, La., won the 2013 National Model of Innovation Chapter Award for student development. Chapter members Megan Bordelon and Haylie Heath and their FFA advisor, Mandy DeLaune, talk about their “Bowls for Better Living” program, which promoted healthy lifestyles and offered suggestions on fun ways to be active and how to eat healthy.

Michael and Amanda Berecz are a husband-and-wife team who own and operate The Farm and Woodbury Floral Designs in Woodbury, Conn. Both were members of the Woodbury FFA Chapter at Nonnewaug High School, and they say they still draw on their FFA experiences in their diverse operation that includes a greenhouse, field and forage crops, CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) and a Sugar Shed (offering honey and maple syrup).

Here he talks about receiving the American Farm Bureau Federation’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Excellence in Agriculture Award and participating in the inaugural class of the VALOR Program, a leadership development program for adults in agriculture.
